富贵花开　锦羽呈瑞Peonies in Bloom, Brocade Feathers Bring Good Omens

At the upper right stands a garden rock full of hollows, built up in layers of dark and pale ink and heavily dotted with moss. On it stands a pair of golden pheasants: the golden-crested, red-breasted male lets his long tail slant down across the rock, while the female rests beside him. A few stems of bamboo are sketched in pale ink behind them, half there and half not. Beneath the rock, peonies open in pink, red and white, full-headed and clearly layered.

The inscription at the upper left reads: peonies of wealth in bloom, brocade feathers bring good omens. The opening peony stands for wealth and honour, the pheasant’s splendid plumage for a sign of good fortune, and together they make a painting of celebration.

右上湖石一方，玲珑多窍，以浓淡墨层层皴出，石边苔点浓重；锦鸡一对立于其上，雄者金冠朱胸，长尾斜垂石下，雌者伏于其侧。其后淡墨写修竹数竿，若隐若现。石下牡丹盛开，粉、红、白三色交映，花头丰满，层次分明，设色明丽而气息清雅。

左上题“富贵花开，锦羽呈瑞”：牡丹花开寓富贵，锦鸡美羽呈祥瑞，合成吉庆祥和之图。
