富贵吉祥Wealth and Good Fortune (rooster)

A small painting on card. A rooster stands proudly on a garden rock, his comb as red as fire and his neck feathers a weave of gold and orange drawn strand by strand, his body in heavy ink with a sheen of mineral blue, and his long tail sweeping and curling in bold strokes of dark ink. The rock is outlined in pale ink, washed pale blue and dotted with green moss. Beneath it pink peonies open, full-headed and shaded petal by petal among ink leaves brightened with green, the still flowers answering the alert bird above.

The title at the upper left reads “Wealth and Good Fortune”: the rooster, ji, sounds like ji, good fortune, and his comb, guan, like guan, official rank; with the peony of wealth, the wish is complete.

此为卡纸小品。雄鸡一只昂然立于湖石之上，鸡冠朱红如火，颈羽金黄与橙红交织，以细笔丝丝写出，身羽墨色浓重，泛出石青光泽，长尾翻卷，以浓墨大笔挥就，气势轩昂。湖石以淡墨勾廓，敷淡青，石边石绿苔点。石下粉红牡丹盛开，花头丰满，瓣瓣分染，墨叶石绿点醒，与雄鸡上下呼应，一动一静。

左上题“富贵吉祥”。鸡谐“吉”，雄鸡又有“鸡冠”谐“官”之意；牡丹寓富贵，合为富贵吉祥。
