兰竹菊Orchid, Bamboo and Chrysanthemum

A set of three panels, one each for the orchid, the bamboo and the chrysanthemum, each titled with a single character. Orchid: a clump grows from a rocky bank on the left, the leaves swept out in ink, long and short, crossing, with pink-violet flowers, and a second clump answers it from the lower right; the bank is built of dabs of ochre. Bamboo: three or four upright stems, leaves layered in dark and pale ink, two bamboo shoots at the foot and a rock to the right, its top dotted with mineral blue. Chrysanthemum: full pink blooms with yellow hearts among green leaves veined in rouge, above a mossy rock.

All three are dated autumn of the jiachen year (2024). The orchid’s quiet, the bamboo’s uprightness and the chrysanthemum’s defiance of frost are all virtues of the gentleman. No birds here: only flowers and stone.

此为三条屏，兰、竹、菊各一，每屏以单字为题。兰屏：兰丛自左侧坡石间生出，墨笔撇叶，长短交搭，花作粉紫，右下另起一丛，上下呼应；坡石以赭色点簇，疏密成纹。竹屏：墨竹三四竿，节节挺拔，竹叶浓淡层叠，下有竹笋两株，右倚一石，石顶苔点施以石青。菊屏：菊花数朵，粉红丰硕，花心点黄，叶色青绿而以胭脂勾筋，左下坡石苔点斑斓。

三屏皆署甲辰秋月。兰之幽，竹之直，菊之傲霜，皆君子之德。不着禽鸟，纯以花石写意，清静简远。
