Painted Basin: Wealth and Long Life

A painted object. The vessel is a white oval basin; the picture is painted on its floor, and the plain rim frames it like a natural oval mount. On it is a small still life: a tall celadon vase outlined in pale blue-grey holding a single crimson peony with golden stamens, and before it two ripe peaches flushed with red among green leaves. The title “Wealth and Long Life” is written in a column at the left, with a seal.

The peony means wealth, the peach long life, and the vase, ping, peace: together a wish for peace, wealth and a long life.
