Painted Basin: Swallows and Rock

A painted object. The vessel is a white oval basin; the picture is painted on its floor, and the plain rim frames it like a natural oval mount. On it stands an ink rock, rubbed in layer on layer in dark and pale tones, with clusters of white flowers outlined in pale ink among green leaves beside it, probably narcissus, and above it a pair of swallows with red breasts and black forked tails, wings spread, facing each other in flight.

The basin has no title; this one describes the picture. Swallows announce the spring and bring good fortune.
