春晖Spring Radiance

A horizontal painting. Peonies fill the center in deep red, peach and pale pink, their large heads shaded petal by petal around bright yellow stamens. Behind them stands a white magnolia, its petals outlined in pale ink and tipped with a touch of red-brown, its branches set down in dark ink. At the left, small golden flowers crowd twisting boughs among narrow green leaves; at the lower right grows a clump of narcissus, white petals around yellow hearts. Sparrows wheel across the upper right, dabbed in brown ink with wings spread, answered by a single bird at the upper left.

The title on the right, dated summer 2023, reads “Spring Radiance.” Chunhui is the light of spring, and in old poetry also an image of a mother’s love. Here a garden in full flower, alive with birds, is filled with that warmth.

此为横幅。牡丹数丛居中盛开，深红、桃红、粉红相间，花头硕大，瓣瓣分染，蕊作明黄；其后白玉兰一树，淡墨勾瓣，瓣尖略点朱赭，枝干以浓墨写出，疏密有致。左侧虬枝缀满金黄小花，间以细长绿叶；右下水仙一丛，白瓣黄心，清雅出尘。右上群雀翻飞，赭墨点厾，或振翅，或回旋，与左上一雀遥相呼应，满纸生机。

右侧题“春晖”，署癸卯夏月。春晖，春日之光也，古人亦以喻慈母之恩。百花竞放，群雀欢鸣，春光融融，暖意盈幅。
