富贵白头Wealth and Honour, White Hair Together (square, II)

A square sheet. On the left a garden rock is washed flat in pale ochre and pale ink, edged with dark moss dots and touches of green, and on it a pair of bulbuls stands shoulder to shoulder, black-headed and white-cheeked, one with an orange-red breast, leaning together. On the right a great pink peony opens, its petals shaded layer by layer around thick golden stamens, and below the rock two peach-coloured buds are about to open, among dark green leaves veined in ink and brightened with mineral green.

The title at the lower right reads “Wealth and Honour, White Hair Together”: the bulbul for growing old together, the peony for wealth and honour.

此为斗方。左侧湖石一方，淡赭淡墨平涂，石边浓墨苔点间以石绿；石上白头翁一双并肩而立，黑首白颊，一只胸羽橙红，相互依偎。右侧粉红牡丹一朵硕大盛开，花瓣层层分染，金黄花蕊点得饱满；石下桃红花苞两枚，含苞待放；叶片墨绿勾筋，石绿点醒，布局左疏右密。

右下题“富贵白头”。白头翁寓白头偕老，牡丹寓富贵，合写夫妻和美、富贵绵长。
