秋实Autumn Fruit

A square sheet. A gourd vine coils in from the upper left on old stems of ochre and ink, its broad leaves spread in ink that runs from dark to pale, layer behind layer. Orange gourds hang beneath the leaves, two side by side and one half-hidden above, with small yellow flowers at the tips of the vine and tendrils spiraling away to the lower right. At the upper right a pair of golden orioles perch at the end of the vine, red beaks slightly open, looking down at the ripe gourds.

The title at the lower left reads “Autumn Fruit.” The many-seeded gourd, hulu, sounds like fulu, fortune and rank: a wish for a house full of blessings.

此为斗方。葫芦藤自左上盘出，老藤以赭墨写就，大叶纷披，墨色由浓及淡，层次分明；橙黄葫芦垂于叶下，两枚并挂，一枚半隐叶间；嫩黄小花点缀藤梢，藤须向右下盘旋舒展。右上黄鹂一对栖于藤端，羽色金黄，红喙微张，俯首而望，与满架秋实相映成趣。

左下题“秋实”。葫芦多籽，又谐“福禄”，写金秋硕果，寓福禄满堂。
