富贵白头Wealth and Honour, White Hair Together (square)

A square sheet. On the right a single great pink peony is in full bloom, its petals shaded in layers around thick golden stamens, with a small peach-coloured flower and a bud beside it among dark green leaves dotted with mineral green. From the upper left a bare branch reaches in, and on it a pair of bulbuls perch together: one pale grey with its beak open as if to sing, the other with a blue-green back, turning toward it, painted in a light, free manner and close and affectionate. Open on the left and full on the right, the composition leaves a broad space of bare paper around birds and flower.

The title at the upper right reads “Wealth and Honour, White Hair Together”: the bulbul for growing old together, the peony for wealth and honour.

此为斗方。右侧粉红牡丹一朵硕大盛开，花瓣层层分染，金黄花蕊饱满，旁有桃红小花一朵与花苞相依；叶以墨绿写出，石绿点醒。左上一截枯枝伸出，白头翁一双并栖其上，一只灰白，张喙欲鸣，一只青绿背羽，侧首相望，以小写意笔法写出，神态亲昵。画面左疏右密，以大片留白托出花鸟，清新明快。

右上题“富贵白头”。白头翁寓白头偕老，牡丹寓富贵，合写夫妻恩爱、富贵长久。
