About the painting 赏析
A square sheet. A branch of pomegranate hangs down from the upper right, its long narrow leaves swept out in blue-green and veined in ink. Six pomegranates hang from it, some whole and some split open to show glistening crimson seeds, their skins ochre flushed with rouge and flecked with ink; at the lower left a few vermilion pomegranate flowers. Below, two chicks, one yellow and one brown, look up at a spider letting itself down on a thread.
The title at the upper left reads “Good Fortune.” The many-seeded pomegranate wishes for many children, a spider dropping on its thread means joy falling from heaven, and ji, chicken, sounds like ji, good luck.
此为斗方。石榴一枝自右上斜垂而下，叶片细长，以青绿撇写，墨线勾筋；石榴六枚，或圆或裂，裂口处籽粒殷红晶莹，果皮赭黄间以胭脂，点以墨斑；左下枝头榴花数朵，朱红鲜艳。画下雏鸡两只，一黄一褐，仰首张望，上方蜘蛛一只垂丝而下，饶有趣味。
左上题“吉祥图”。石榴多子，寓多子多福；蜘蛛垂丝，谓之“喜从天降”；鸡谐“吉”，合而为吉祥之意。
