About the painting 赏析

A horizontal sheet. Peonies spread from left to right among a few garden rocks: on the left some pink blooms open against a rock; at the centre a single flower of apricot pink, soft as jade; and on the right a crowd of crimson, golden and peach blossoms, full-headed and clearly layered. The leaves are brushed in dark green and dotted with mineral green, and buds stand ready to open at the tips of the stems. At both ends and along the foot of the sheet grow clumps of narcissus, long leaves fanning out and small white flowers held above them, a cool, quiet note against the richness of the peonies.

The title runs across the upper left: Wealth and Immortality. The peony means wealth and honour, and the narcissus, shuixian, “water immortal”, lends its name to the word shenxian, immortal: together a wish for lasting good fortune.

此为横幅。牡丹自左至右铺展，坡石两三掩映其间：左侧粉红数朵依石而开，中央杏粉一朵温润如玉，朱红、明黄、桃红诸色簇拥于右半，花头丰满，层次分明；叶以墨绿写出，叶上点缀石绿，枝头花苞点点，含苞欲放。画幅两端及下方，水仙丛生，修叶舒展，白花细小，清雅脱俗，与浓丽的牡丹一淡一浓，相映成趣。

左上横题“富贵神仙图”。牡丹寓富贵，“水仙”谐“神仙”，二者同绘，取富贵长春、吉祥如意之意。
