金玉世界A World of Gold and Jade

Peonies fill the scroll layer upon layer. At the top a few apricot and pale orange blooms, warm and light like early morning sun; in the middle crowds of crimson and peach; and below, large pink and deep red flowers side by side, each full and round, deepest at the base of the petals and fading toward the edges, with thick golden stamens. The leaves are brushed in dark green with touches of mineral blue, clear and fresh. On the right a garden rock, outlined in ink and washed flat in mineral green, carries a pair of sparrows in mottled browns: one crouches toward the left, the other lifts its head and looks back, both dabbed in with a light, free touch.

The title at the lower left reads “A World of Gold and Jade”: the yellow and pale peonies are like gold and jade, and the sheet full of flowers wishes for plenty and a life that shines.

牡丹满幅，层层叠叠：画顶杏黄、浅橙数朵，色淡而暖，如晨光初照；中段朱红、桃红簇拥，下部大朵粉红与深红相间，花头丰盈，瓣根色重而瓣缘渐淡，金黄花蕊点得饱满。叶以墨绿写出，间用石青，清润透亮。右侧一方湖石以石绿平染，墨线勾廓，石上麻雀一双，褐羽斑驳，一只伏身向左，一只昂首回望，以小写意笔法点染，神态可掬。

左下题“金玉世界”。黄白牡丹如金似玉，满纸繁花，寓富足美满、光彩照人之意。
