荷塘蛙趣Lotus Pond with a Frog

A tall fabric picture on a white paper ground. A pink lotus opens near the top center, its long petals spreading in layers around a yellow heart with the seed head dotted in black, and two buds wait at the upper left and among the leaves. Each of the large lotus leaves is pieced from many wedges of green cloth in different shades, with fine lines left between them so they read as the veins radiating from the center; the leaves tip and fold over one another, and young leaves still rolled up are cut from yellow-green cloth. At the lower right sits a frog, shaped from green cloth over padding so it stands out like a small relief, crouched among floating duckweed and lifting its head toward the flowers. An oval seal is stamped at the upper right and a square one at the lower left.

The lotus rises clean from the mud, and a frog in a summer pond is pure country charm. The picture has no title; this one describes it.

荷花出淤泥而不染，夏日荷塘，蛙鸣其间，最富野趣。此作未题画名，题目依画意拟定。
