家园Home Garden

A small painting on card, a scene from a farmyard. On the right a single banana leaf is splashed down the card in heavy dark ink, dotted with mineral green as if just after rain; on the left are a few clusters of red flowers, crimson and rouge with yellow stamens among bright leaves. At the foot two chicks, their downy yellow feathers dabbed in pale ink and pale yellow, tug at the same small worm from either side, neither willing to let go, comically earnest, among a few blades of grass and scattered pebbles.

The title at the upper left reads “Home Garden”. The two chicks quarrelling over a worm recall Qi Baishi’s famous picture “One day they will call to each other”: the innocence and warmth of everyday life at home.

此为卡纸小品，写农家小景。画幅右侧芭蕉一叶，以浓墨大笔自上而下泼写，墨色沉厚，叶上石绿点点，如雨后初晴；左侧红花数簇，花瓣朱红与胭脂相间，黄蕊点点，翠叶相衬。画底小鸡两只，鹅黄绒羽以淡墨淡黄点染，正一左一右争啄一条小虫，互不相让，憨态可掬；地上细草数茎，石子点点。

左上题“家园”。小鸡争虫，取意于齐白石“他日相呼”之趣，写家园日常的天真与温暖。
