About the painting 赏析
A small round painting on card of a single peony. The flower is huge, filling almost the whole circle, its petals shaded layer upon layer in peach and rouge without outline, rich at the base and fading almost to white at the edges, around thick golden stamens with a touch of mineral green at the heart; a bud waits to open at the upper left. The leaves, in dark and pale ink, spread wetly around it, black against the bright red, a strong contrast that stays in harmony.
The painting carries no title, only the signature Jumei; the title, after the peony’s praise as the beauty of the nation, describes the picture.
