Narcissus and a Mouse

A small round painting on card. A clump of narcissus grows from the foot of the circle: the bulbs, in pale ink, are round and homely with fine roots, and the long leaves are washed flat in mineral green and veined in ink, fanning out to either side. Clusters of white flowers rise above them, outlined in pale ink with orange-yellow centres. At the lower right a little mouse in dark ink stands up on its hind legs, front paws raised, gazing up at the flowers, comically intent, a playful touch beside the cool, clean narcissus.

The painting carries no title; this one describes the picture. The narcissus is a flower of the New Year, clean and auspicious, and the mouse adds a lively note.
