紫气东来Purple Air from the East (square)

A square sheet. An old wisteria vine hangs from the upper right, its trunk written in dark ink, twisting and strong, and great clusters of flowers hang from it in violet, lilac and blue-violet with bright yellow centres, tier upon tier. From the left two birds fly in through the vine: above, a grey bird with an orange cheek, wings spread; below, a black swallow with a forked tail, swerving downward, both caught in motion with a few strokes. The leaves are brushed in pale ink and pale green, leaving the paper open and fresh.

The title at the lower right reads “Purple Air from the East”: wisteria blooming like purple cloud is an omen of good fortune, and birds flying through the flowers bring luck to the door.

此为斗方。老藤自右上垂下，以浓墨写干，盘曲遒劲；紫藤花穗大串垂挂，紫、淡紫与蓝紫交织，花心点以明黄，层叠而下，繁丽可观。左侧两只飞鸟穿藤而来：上方一只灰羽橙颊，展翅疾飞；下方一只燕子墨羽剪尾，回身俯冲，以简笔写出，动势十足。藤叶以淡墨淡绿写成，疏密穿插，留白处清新透气。

右下题“紫气东来”。紫藤盛开如紫云，取“紫气东来”之祥瑞，飞鸟穿花，寓好运临门。
