紫云飘香　双禽戏水Purple Clouds and Drifting Fragrance, Two Birds at Play

Wisteria hangs from the top of the scroll. Its vines twist and cross in lines of dark and pale ink, and the long flower clusters are dabbed in violet and blue-violet with touches of pale yellow, like low purple clouds with their fragrance drifting; the leaves range from ink-green to young shoots veined in red-brown. Below lies a stretch of still water, a few fine lines for ripples, where two waterbirds play, one above the other, turning to look back; a few fallen petals float on the surface.

Flourishing wisteria often carries the wish “purple air from the east”, an omen of good fortune, while a pair of waterbirds, like mandarin ducks, stands for harmony and lifelong companionship. The inscription dates the scroll to an autumn of the renyin year, 2022, the earliest date among the works here.

画幅上部紫藤垂挂，藤蔓以浓淡墨线盘曲穿插，花穗以紫、蓝紫点染而成，间以鹅黄，宛如紫云低垂、暗香浮动；藤叶或墨绿，或为赭红叶脉之嫩叶。下方水面一片，细线数笔写出微波，水禽一双，一上一下，嬉戏其间，回首相望，水面更漂落花数瓣。

紫藤繁茂，常寓“紫气东来”之祥瑞；水禽成双，如鸳鸯相伴，以喻和美相守。款署壬寅秋，为此间年代最早之作。
