Art

I love art — and some of it runs in the family. Here I share the paintings of my grandmother, Li Jumei (李菊梅), so that more people can enjoy her work.

Li Jumei

Born in Fu'an, Fujian

Li Jumei paints birds and flowers in ink and colour, joining careful and free brushwork: birds drawn feather by feather, peonies built up in soft layered washes, leaves and rocks set down more freely. Most of the paintings here are of peonies and golden pheasants; there are also cranes in a lotus pond, waterbirds under wisteria and red plum in snow, most of them titled and signed in her own hand.
