About the painting 赏析

A calligraphy fan. Across it, from right to left, are four large characters, nande hutu, written in a running-regular hand with heavy ink and open, generous forms, one character to each section of the fan’s curve, with a seal at either side, red against white.

The phrase comes from the Qing painter Zheng Banqiao: it is hard to be clever, hard to be muddled, and hardest of all to pass from cleverness into muddle, a saying of easy-going worldly wisdom.
