“Thousand-year peaches, large as a measure of grain; eat one and live a thousand years.” Painted by Li Jumei in the eleventh lunar month of the jiachen year (2024).

About the painting 赏析

A small painting on card. On the right stands a garden rock, rubbed in with dark and pale ink, washed pale blue on its faces and heavily dotted with moss along its edges. Behind it a peach branch leans out, its stems in pale ink and its long narrow leaves in dark green touched with mineral blue. Five or six peaches, high and low, are dabbed in rouge and vermilion without outline and flecked with fine darker dots, red and ripe against the cool grey-blue of the rock. Two columns of calligraphy fill the left half, so that writing and painting share the card.

The inscription reads “Thousand-year peaches, large as a measure of grain; eat one and live a thousand years”, dated winter 2024: the peach of the immortals, a birthday wish for long life.
