Art

I love art — and some of it runs in the family. Here I share the paintings of my grandmother, Li Jumei (李菊梅), so that more people can enjoy her work.

Li Jumei

Born in Fu'an, Fujian

Li Jumei paints birds and flowers in ink and colour, joining careful and free brushwork: birds drawn feather by feather, peonies built up in soft layered washes, leaves and rocks set down more freely. Besides hanging scrolls, the works here include a four-panel screen, square sheets, small pieces on card, folding fans and painted basins. Peonies and golden pheasants come most often; lotus ponds, wisteria, plum and bamboo, fruit and vegetables appear too.
